Vesta

From λ LUMENWARD

Vesta is a large asteroid located in the main asteroid belt between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter. It is characterized by a differentiated structure and a surface shaped by large impact events.

Vesta is discussed in planetary science, meteoritics, and studies of early solar system formation.

Status

Vesta has been observed telescopically since the early nineteenth century and studied through spacecraft missions. Data from these observations inform models of its internal structure, surface composition, and collisional history.
