Pluto

From λ LUMENWARD

Pluto is a dwarf planet located in the Kuiper Belt beyond the orbit of Neptune. It is characterized by a small size, an eccentric orbit, and a surface composed largely of volatile ices.

Pluto is discussed in planetary science, solar system dynamics, and the study of trans-Neptunian objects.

Status

Pluto was observed telescopically in the twentieth century and reclassified as a dwarf planet in the early twenty-first century. Observational data from spacecraft and telescopes continue to inform models of its composition, atmosphere, and orbital behavior.
